CLOSURE OF WAITING LIST

As of 1st September 2013 we regret to announce that due to an influx of joining enquiries since the Olympics, Calderglen Harriers Junior Section are closing their waiting list as we are unable to safely accommodate any more new athletes at this time.

Anyone already on the waiting list will be given priority for places.  We will continually review the waiting list and will contact people when a place becomes available.  However we reserve the right to accommodate an athlete within a training group that is sufficiently staffed to cope with one or two extra athletes.  If your child’s name is on the list and you no longer want to be on the list please contact the Junior Coordinator, Richard Lawton by e-mail at calderglenharriersjuniors@hotmail.co.uk

Going forward we are looking at finding solutions to resolve this so we don’t have a large waiting list and as a running club we are looking beyond the current situation as we have Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games in August which will create demand.

Coaches & Volunteers – Calderglen Harriers need you!

To accommodate the demand for our junior section we wish to add further to our coaching contingent so we can accommodate as many aspiring athletes as we possibly can.  If you or you know anyone who is interested in running, would like the opportunity to coach kids from 6 years and upwards we would like to hear from you.  The club can provide:

  • Formal and informal coach education to become a coach
  • 100% support to allow you to build your confidence and learn
  • Already a qualified UK Athletics Coach, we can support you to progress through further coaching qualifications

TRAIL RACES 2013

Team Calderglen Harriers before the race
Another evening of fine racing from the Calderglen Harriers Young Athletes Section  showing that they might be junior to the seniors but displaying some fine mature performances after weeks of hard work and effort in training.  This year we had mild and dry conditions on Friday night and all the Young Calderglen Harrier athletes looked very professional warming up for their races on the cricket pitch with coach John Mullen and wearing their Harrier vest  / yellow t-shirts amongst the many other club colours.

To begin with I thought the whole night was excellent.  After my rallying cry for food for Friday's buffet, it was great that all the parents worked together to put on tremendous buffet for all the 1k & 3k runners (a first for the Young Athletes Section).  So a big thank you to all Parents and Coaches.  I felt a positive buzz of enthusiasm in the atmosphere amongst the Harrier runners and great signs of camaraderie & friendship.  As I was manning my 5k registration post in the clubhouse I started hearing the 1k results and was pleased to hear we got 1st & 2nd in 1k...what a way to start.  Then I got to see the 3k runners finishing their race with Emma starting off with a fantastic sprint finish achieving an impressive 6th place overall.  Shortly after Emma, the rest of Harriers were coming through thick and fast all showing great grit and determination to run their best...fantastic!  See the list of award overhaul below.

Richard celebrating after completing the 10k
Brilliant night and I felt very proud to be a Coach and Junior Coordinator of this section.  Well done to all the young athletes who took part in Friday's races and if you didn't, come and join the party next year!
