Important Travel Information

Due to the continuing road works on the M8 M73 M74 the M74 will be closed between J5 Raith  and J4 Maryville the diversion route may have an  impact on people travelling from south of the M74 and those from Glasgow. I would suggest allowing more time to get to the course and find an alternative route.

CALDERGLEN HARRIERS HAT

As our winter training progresses the autumn weather kicks in with lowering temperatures leading us to a cold winter you could benefit from keeping yourself warm and maximising your body heat during training nights. Then look no further than a Calderglen Harrier commemorative hat. In 2014 Calderglen Harriers had their 30th anniversary and as part of those celebrations we got commemorative hats for members.  I have a final stock of 21 commemorative hats which are available at a cost of £3.

If you looking for a Christmas stocking filler for your loved one(s), any new members to the club, existing members looking to renew their well worn hat or any other family or friends wish to purchase such a fetching hat then just speak to Sarah or I on Wednesday training nights. Alternatively leave a note on the blog.

SUNSHINE ON STRATHCLYDE PARK

Saturday 5th November was our first club supported Parkrun event for the junior Harriers. Although a cold morning the sun was shining on Strathclyde Park and a hard core squad of 11 turned up to test themselves against Parkrun's finest and each other. You can't be free advertising so as instructed most Harriers either had club vests or training T-shirts on to promote the club.

Team photo pre race
All club junior coaches were there in support and 3 of the parents were there Karen McCarron, Les Kane and Paul Kane who also ran the event. Les & Paul both help John regularly on Wednesday training nights. John opted to run to support his training squad and see how he fared amongst his athletes.  Richard and Mark were there in non running capacity as both were running the National Short Course Championship in Renfrew later in the day. Frances Maxwell took on the role of official photographer but by the end of the event her fingers had almost frozen off as it was sunny but cold.

The turnout and the results were impressive. So proud of all that turned up to run the best they could and duly some got Personal bests. No less than 6 Pbs from the junior Harriers and senior Harrier Julie Beveridge achieved a Pb.

Chris first junior Harrier home
245 runners in the field.

PARKRUN - CLUB SUPPORTED

Following on from speaking to the under 11 & under 13-17 squads on Wednesday I want to further promote our club initiative to get the athletes involved in more running events. This is help further their training, develop experience running in a competitve environment and socialising as club out with training nights.

We are piloting taking part as a club in Parkruns and the 1st will be this Saturday 5th November at Strathclyde Park (5k distance). We chose this one as it is the only Lanarkshire based event.

The start time is 09:30 and the plan is to meet at the watersports car park in Strathclyde Park at 08:45.

Critical Information

Your child will need to be registered before their first run.
Only ever register with parkrun once. Don't forget to bring a printed copy of your barcode. If you forget it you won't get a time.

See link:http://www.parkrun.org.uk/strathclyde/ and go to section on front page that say "What does it cost to join in?" and click the word "register".

Club coaches John, Richard, Mark & Frances will be there to meet & greet Harriers at 0845. Lets promote the club! If you have a club vest, yellow training t-shirt or your Christmas Fun Run t-shirt from last year please were it.

Hopefully see some of you on Saturday.

Richard
