CHRISTMAS FUN

2019 Fun Runners
Once again we had a great turn out for the junior fun run this year with 28 runners turning up to run in their festive teams and get Christmas started with a bit of club racing.  This year we had 9 teams after a bit of last minute changes due attendance and one of the teams had four runners but we were still able to have good competitive fun.  The wet and windy weather over the past week caused a change of route.

This year it was 1k (well actually 1.06k on my Garmin) and started at the usual starting line taking the kids a first right towards zoo car park then the new route took off here where the kids ran up to Torrance House then turned left to come down the hill then turn left again to the same small loop then back to start.

The winning team this year was Christmas Puddings who were Zoe Hutton (leg 1), Hayden McBarron (leg 2) and Francis Santangeli (leg 3). The team winning time was 14.18 minutes.  The winners all received a voucher.

This year's winning team with Coach Richard
The other teams finished in the follow order:

2nd, The Elves (Eva, Kieran & Angus)
3rd, The Carol Singers (Orlagh, Emma & Orla)
4th, Christmas Trees (Dean, Katie, Gemma)
5th, The Reindeer (Dexter, Cara & Kai)
6th, The Crackers (Lucy, Sophie & Eva)
7th, The Snowmen (Euan, Rachel, Anna & Freya)
8th, The Sleighbells (Jack, Robbie & Olivia)
9th, Candy Canes, (Jack, Eve & Ben)

At the end all runners got a selection box, Calderglen Harrier Christmas fun run t-shirt and if you brought a pressie they all got a secret Santa pressie.

Thank you to all the parents for bringing their kids along and to everyone who  volunteered to marshall to ensure all the kids were safe, Graeme Lindsay for taking photos which are now on the junior FB page (if not a member email me and I will send you an invitation). Last but not least to my wife Sarah and daughter Emma for help before and on the day of the race.

This Wednesday 18th December and Saturday 21st December are the last sessions of 2019. The Saturday sessions return on 4th January and the Wednesday sessions return on 15th January for a 6.30pm start.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

West District Cross Championships - 07/12/19

Ben Buchanan was the solo junior Harrier in this event. In a strong field of 59 runners Ben achieved a time of 15.52 which looking at the report from the seniors event in this championship was a real XC cross and challenged all runners.

CHRISTMAS FUN RUN 2019

On Sunday 15th December Calderglen Harriers will be holding their annual Senior and Junior Christmas Fun Run in Calderglen Country Park.  Junior event will start at 10am.  So now is the time to get thinking of a costume which is optional.

Juniors Xmas squad 2017
All pre-entered junior runners for Christmas Fun Run will receive a free special edition Calderglen Harriers t-shirt. So in order for this to happen I would like cooperation from athletes and parents in terms of your availability to take part and runner t-shirt size.

To do this, we need to submit the order to our clothing supplier in plenty time so we need to have entries for the race, along with the athletes t-shirt size, by Wednesday 27th November at the latest. (T-shirt sizes are age  9/11, 12/13, small adult, medium adult, large adult).  Entries can be notified by e-mail, facebook junior page (if a member) or at training.

Following on from previous years, the Junior section will be doing a Relay race.  Each team will cover 3 laps with prizes for the winning team.  However all is not lost, everyone will get a treat at the end and for those of you wishing to participate, we will have a Secret Santa.  Participation in the Secret Santa is not compulsory but those who bring something will get to pick a present.  Presents should be to the value of around £5 and be suitable for anyone and wrapped.  We will do the lucky dip after the race.

Race Details

Junior Harriers (Relay Team)
Starts at 10am (arrive for 9.30am) Each runner does 1 lap (0.8 miles / 1.3k per lap), which is 2.4 miles or 3.8k

Senior Harriers (Indiviudal race)
Starts at 11am, Run 5 laps (0.8 miles / 1.3k per lap), which is 4 miles or 6.4k

Hopefully some of the older junior runners that are in Mark's training group will consider doing the 5 laps and challenge the "old" seniors.  In order to do this race I need your best 5k time for this year so you can be time handicapped i.e. slowest runners start first with the fastest last. The idea we all finish at same time....well we try.

If any young athlete wants to do the senior fun run then please let Richard know. If junior wants to both then no problem your choice.
