SHORT COURSE XC CHAMPIONSHIPS AT BELLAHOUSTON

Beautiful sunshine at Bellahouston greeted the record field for the National Short Course Cross Country Championships on Sunday 10th November. The only downside was that the warm sun had thawed out the frozen ground making certain sections very muddy indeed.

The first race of the day was the under 15 Girls and are only girl was Morgan Beaton in her debut cross country race for the club.  The course was a 2k distance and I advised Morgan to run from the back and move up the field into a comfortable pace that she could sustain and complete the race still running.  With this advice Morgan ran a great race for a first timer and completed the course in 9:50.

In the boys race we had Lewis MacDonald for the under 15 race and Craig Stewart for the under 17 race.  Lewis was the first Harrier boy to go out and after all ready been in Bellahouston Park since 8am doing Triathlon training he put himself through the challenging 2k course and achieved a time of 9:58.  Well done for 100% effort Lewis.

Craig Stewart was the last of the junior runners and in the under 17 race they were faced with doing a 3k route.  Maybe not the most confident runner in his ability, Craig stuck to the back of the pack pacing himself around what seemed comfortable for him. This is Craig's second cross country of the season and proved again today that he has the strength and fitness now to handle these events, finishing in 12:15.

Well done to Morgan, Lewis and Craig for continuing to do well, competing for the club and showing their level of commitment and motivation.  You can all be club champions to encourage your club mates to come out and race for the club.
