Harriers on the Run........

There has been a number of junior Harriers flexing their running skills outside of club races with good results.  The most recent was Alistair Crawford (last running in the National YA Road Race Championship) and long term club member Ewen Murray.

On Saturday 26th March, both young athletes took part in the BB Cross Country race at the Garscube Estate representing the Glasgow Battalion.  At junior level, Alistair finished in a credible 11th place which led to his team being 1st overall and at senior level Ewen was 2nd in his race.  Glasgow Battalion's Seniors team added to the success of the day and came 1st and 2nd overall.

Earlier this month on Friday 4th March there was a number of young athletes representing their Primary schools at the EK Primary School Cross Country race.  Primary 6s ran 1K route and Primary 7s ran 1.5K route.  From the results there was clearly all round good effort with a few notable performances highlighting emerging talent to be developed. The roll of honour:

Primary 7 Boys - Allan Woodhouse (1st), Jonathan Anderson (6th), Ryan McPartland (8th) and Mark Kelly (9th)
Primary 7 Girls - Nicole Sharpe (4th), Lynsey Thomson (5th), Susan Woodhouse (9th), Lauren Butler (15th), Megan Anderson (36th) and Jasmin Reid (77th)

Primary 6 Boys - Mark McKenzie (3rd)
Primary 6 Girls - Kate Kane (4th), Anna Fegan (19th)

Well done to all the young athletes you did yourself and your school proud. Lets see this emulated on the field for the Calderglen Harriers.

Thank you to Steven Crawford and Lynne Woodhouse for informing me about these events.

NATIONAL YOUNG ATHLETES ROAD RACE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Well done to the Under 13 boys trio of Alistair Crawford, Craig Stewart and Drew Gordon for representing the Harriers yesterday at the National Young Athletes Road Race Championship. For the 2nd year in a row this event was held Rouken Glen Park in Giffnock.

With a field of 57 boys in this 2.5K route it was won by Josh Kerr (Edinburgh) in a time of 8:47 and our Harrier's trio competed well to show the good progress they are making in the training sessions.  Alistair Crawford was the first home with a time of 10:34, Craig Stewart was next in a time of 11:10 and following on from his last outing at the National Falkirk Cross Country, Drew Gordon put in another strong steady performance and achieved at time of 12:47.

Due to several injuries and other commitments other Harriers had to pull out of their races so all please get better so you are ready for your next race!

These are fine performances and  with continued training and more race experience all of the above will become better and better and the club as a whole is very proud of their efforts in representing the Harriers

Any of the other young athletes that are interested in competing in these type of events please feel free to ask any of the coaches how to get involved.
