NATIONAL CROSS COUNTRY (FALKIRK)

Callander Park in Falkirk lived up to its reputation as a bit of a mudbath for this years National Cross country Championships. With our young athelites kicking things off at 11:30 with the U/13s our only representative in this race being Drew Gordon running 3200 metres in a time of 18:13 a fine performance in the strength sapping conditions, well done Drew.
Next to run was our U/15 boys running 4000 metres. First Harrier home was Andrew McGurk 17:48 followed closely by Ian Rae (jnr) 17:52 then Paul Mullen 17:54, all very close and good team running. These are fine performances and with continued training and more race experience all of the above will become better and better and the club as a whole is very proud of their efforts in representing the Harriers.
Any of the other young athlites that are interested in competing in these type of events please feel free to ask any of the coaches how to get involved.

Young Athletes - Fees for 2011

It has been decided that for 2011 the following fees will be charged for young athletes :

1. An initial payment of £15. This will give the young athlete membership of East Kilbride Sports Club. Calderglen Harriers are a member section of the sports club whose management committee have kindly allowed us use of the club for a nominal sum for a number of years to allow us to build up a young athletes section. However it is now not financially or legally viable to do continue with this.

2. From May onwards (but excluding December) a charge of £1 per young athlete for training. This money will also be used to subsidise the purchase of club merchandise (e.g. t shirts, waterproof jackets and vests). The committee of Calderglen Harriers is currently pursuing other sources of income which may help us with the development of the young athletes of our club.

3. The £15 fee does not apply to those who have a family membership of the sports club as this cost is covered within that fee.

4. If you have more than one child attending you can spread the cost over January to the first week in March. Cheques should be made payable to "Calderglen Harriers"  and an East Kilbride Sports Club application form needs to be completed.  Please put the name of the young athlete (s) on the reverse side of the cheque. Cash payment is also accepted.

5. We are continuing to build our members list and need to make sure that every athlete has completed a Calderglen Harriers registration form & East Kilbride Sports Club application form .  Please come and ask Richard Lawton for forms.

I am sure that you will all agree that even with these changes the club offers excellent training in terms of health and well being at a reasonable cost in comparison to other sports.

If anyone has any queries please do not hesitate to ask myself or any coach/helper on a Wednesday night.
